Year's end ...
Every time I start new creation projects, I clean my studio from top to bottom, burn incense and meditate ... these are just a few of my rituels!!
2020 is going to be a year of revelations. I'll let you know precisely what its about when everything is ready!!
Nightime in the studio ...
I love nightime in the studio, with just a few lights.
Shadows are full of stories, forms mysteriously disappear in the dard and the silence is full of inspiration.
Autumn ...
There is a stillness in autumn
a time to contemplate
to watch the leaves turn
every one of them
a sparkling jewel.
Ephemeral installations
in nature ...
Fossils are part of Earth's history. They carry a strange power that makes us dream of strange creatures and distant worlds.
Land art created in Rivière-du-Loup, Québec - 2019
Rainy days ...
I love rainy days in the studio. They are perfect days to work on things already started and that have been waiting for some attention.
I think I did the last brushstroke on this 5 feet x 4 feet painting ...
"Red Butterfly", mixed media on canvas.
Solstice ...
There is a sacred relationship between women and Earth. These installations are prayers made visible.
The goddesses in this project do not have names; however, they are carriers of intention, prayers, wishes or blessings towards nature. Some of the thoughts that accompany my process are the protection of flora and fauna, healthy ecosystems, the protection of endangered species, the restauration of destroyed or polluted zones.
On this SOLSTICE day, my focus is on water.
Men-agerie ...
A menagerie is a place where rare animals are kept, either for study or for show to the public. It is a travelling collection of generally wild animals that are lead from fair to fair.
This Men-agerie forms a motley crew of odd, mismatched and undisciplined individuals. Archetypal exemples of a motley crew are commonly found in fantasy and science fiction. "Tricerotop" and "Starfish" man, two new sculptures at the air drying stage are being added to the other 10 hybrid men sculptures that are also at different stages of completion. More members of this "motley crew" are on the way ...
In the studio ...
One of 7 canvasses, featuring goddesses, that will be part of a 5 feet x 14 feet installation.
Still lots of work left to do!
Imaginarium Project ...
Having lived from birth to adulthood near the sea, it's impossible for me to imagine a world without mermaids.
They are part of my childhood imaginings, accompanied by sea monsters of course!
Masterclass with Neil Gaiman ...
Working on paintings during the day and taking an online masterclass at night with Neil Gaiman, author of Coraline, The Sandman, Stardust, The Graveyard Book and more. My days are full and I'm loving every minute of it!
In the studio ...
The first time I incorporated objects in my paintings was in 2006 in an exhibition titled "Insect". I came back to this idea 5 years ago with two paintings; one with a birch bark and fiberglass skin on canvas and this one: "Red Dragon", ceramic, brass, liquid gold 17kt and mixed media on canvas.
At the moment, my studio is filled with canvasses at different stages of creation. To be continued ...
To refire or not ...
It's always a big question for me when I'm thinking of refiring ceramic pieces, should I or should I not. Some parts that I like can be completely ruined while those that I'm trying to improve will not necessarily have the results that I'm looking for. The chemical reactions of glazes are not always predictable.
A few weeks back, I decided to add more glazes and to refire "Aquaman". Oh! I have no regrets!
